Why September Is the Best Time to Visit Etowah Valley Sporting Clays

By | Skeet Shooting, Uncategorized

Cooler Weather, Fall Weekends & Clays & Feathers Are Just Around the Corner

September has a way of changing everything.

The mornings become cooler. The leaves begin to hint at changing colors. Football weekends return. Families settle back into routines. And for many outdoor enthusiasts, excitement starts building for hunting season.

It’s also one of the best times of the year to visit Etowah Valley Sporting Clays in Dawsonville, Georgia.

Whether planning a family outing, reconnecting with friends after a busy summer, preparing for bird season, or simply looking for a relaxing weekend outdoors, September offers the perfect combination of comfortable weather, beautiful scenery, and exciting opportunities.

And with Clays & Feathers returning in October, now is the ideal time to sharpen skills and enjoy time on the course before the season begins.

Why September Is One of Our Favorite Months

Summer crowds begin to slow down. Temperatures become more comfortable. The pace feels a little more relaxed. That means more opportunities to enjoy the courses, take in the scenery, and spend quality time outdoors.

Instead of battling the summer heat, September often brings crisp mornings and pleasant afternoons that make every round even more enjoyable.

Clays & Feathers Begins Next Month

One of the most anticipated experiences at Etowah Valley Sporting Clays returns in October.

Clays & Feathers combines sporting clays with upland bird hunting experiences at Etowah Valley Game Preserve, creating an unforgettable outdoor tradition for families, friends, corporate groups, and hunting enthusiasts.

September is the perfect time to prepare.

Practicing now allows guests to:

  • ✔ Refresh fundamentals
  • ✔ Build confidence before the season
  • ✔ Become familiar with different target presentations
  • ✔ Enjoy time outdoors before busy fall schedules begin

Whether it’s the first season or the fiftieth, preparation always pays off.

Bird Season Starts Long Before Opening Day

Many experienced hunters know that preparation begins weeks before heading into the field.

Sporting clays helps develop valuable skills such as:

  • Reading target lines
  • Improving timing
  • Building consistency
  • Maintaining focus
  • Practicing under different presentations

While sporting clays doesn’t perfectly replicate every hunting scenario, it’s one of the most enjoyable ways to stay sharp before bird season arrives.

The Red Course is especially popular among guests looking to prepare for upland bird hunting, while the Blue and White Courses provide additional variety for those wanting an extra challenge.

Football Saturdays Meet Fresh Air Sundays

September brings another favorite tradition. Football season.

After spending Saturday cheering for a favorite team, Sunday becomes the perfect opportunity to get outside. Many families and groups are making sporting clays part of their fall routine:

  • 🏈 Saturday football
  • 🌲 Sunday outdoors

It’s a great balance between weekends spent watching the action and weekends creating your own memories.

Fall Break Is Closer Than You Think

Many North Georgia schools schedule fall breaks throughout late September and October.

Instead of another day indoors, families often look for activities that everyone can enjoy together. Sporting clays offers something unique:

  • Fresh air
  • Beautiful scenery
  • Friendly competition
  • Time away from screens
  • An activity multiple generations can enjoy together

It’s one of the reasons so many families make EVSC part of their annual fall traditions.

Corporate Event Season Is Here

September also marks the beginning of one of the busiest seasons for corporate outings. Businesses begin planning:

  • Employee appreciation events
  • Client appreciation days
  • Leadership retreats
  • Holiday celebrations
  • End-of-year networking events

Booking early allows companies to secure preferred dates before the busy fall calendar fills up.

Fall Is Made for the Outdoors

North Georgia truly comes alive during autumn. After a morning at EVSC, many guests continue exploring nearby attractions like:

  • Historic Downtown Dahlonega
  • North Georgia wineries
  • Local pumpkin patches
  • Apple orchards
  • Scenic mountain drives
  • Amicalola Falls State Park

It makes for the perfect North Georgia day trip.

Make September the Month to Try Something New

Every season brings a new opportunity. September happens to bring several.

Cooler weather. Beautiful scenery. More comfortable afternoons. Less summer rush. Preparation for Clays & Feathers.

If sporting clays has been on the bucket list, this is one of the best times of year to experience it.

Why Sporting Clays Is the Ultimate Client Appreciation Event

By | Sporting Clays, Uncategorized

A Better Way to Build Relationships, Reward Clients & Host Memorable Corporate Events

Every company wants to strengthen relationships, with clients, employees, business partners, and the community.

But here’s the challenge: Most client appreciation events look exactly the same.

Dinner reservations. Conference rooms.Golf tournaments. Hotel banquet halls.

While those events certainly have their place, many businesses are looking for something more engaging, an experience that encourages genuine conversation, builds stronger relationships, and leaves a lasting impression.

That’s where Etowah Valley Sporting Clays in Dawsonville, Georgia offers something different.

Located in the foothills of North Georgia, just a short drive from Atlanta, Cumming, Alpharetta, Gainesville, and surrounding communities, EVSC provides a unique outdoor setting where business relationships grow naturally through shared experiences.

Whether planning a client appreciation event, executive retreat, employee recognition day, fundraiser, networking event, or corporate team-building experience, EVSC offers an unforgettable destination that guests will remember long after the day is over.

Why Outdoor Corporate Events Create Better Connections

Business relationships rarely grow during formal presentations.

They grow during conversations. Walking between stations. Sharing laughs. Celebrating successes. Meeting someone new. Outdoor experiences naturally remove many of the barriers that exist inside an office or conference room. Instead of focusing on business first, people simply enjoy spending time together.

Those relationships often become the foundation for future partnerships.

More Than Team Building

Corporate outings aren’t just about improving communication anymore. Today’s businesses are using events to:

✔ Strengthen client relationships

✔ Thank long-time customers

✔ Welcome new employees

✔ Celebrate company milestones

✔ Reward top-performing teams

✔ Connect with vendors and partners

✔ Host leadership retreats

✔ Build company culture

An unforgettable experience often creates a stronger impression than another catered lunch.

A Venue Designed for Every Type of Business

Etowah Valley Sporting Clays welcomes organizations of every size. Whether hosting a leadership team of eight executives or a company celebration for more than 100 guests, our property offers flexible spaces designed to fit your goals.

Every event can be customized to fit your company’s vision.

A Refreshing Alternative to Traditional Networking

Networking works best when conversations happen naturally. At EVSC, guests aren’t seated around tables waiting for introductions.

They’re walking together. Learning together. Encouraging one another. Sharing stories between stations.

These relaxed interactions often lead to stronger professional relationships than traditional networking events.

That’s why many organizations choose EVSC for:

  • Chamber networking events
  • Leadership groups
  • Industry associations
  • Referral groups
  • Business mixers
  • Customer appreciation events

✔ Scenic North Georgia setting

Whether many guests are trying sporting clays for the first time or returning for another visit, our team helps everyone feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.

Great for Beginners

One of the biggest concerns event planners have is experience levels.

The good news? Experience isn’t required. Many corporate guests have never visited a sporting clays course before.

Our Green Course offers a welcoming introduction, while more experienced participants can enjoy the Blue, Red, or White Courses.

Everyone participates at their own comfort level. That’s one reason so many companies return year after year.

More Than an Event… It’s An Experience

Some corporate events are forgotten before Monday morning. Others become stories employees continue talking about months later.

Imagine a day that includes:

  • Morning coffee at the lodge
  • A brief welcome and safety orientation
  • Time outdoors with coworkers or clients
  • Friendly competition
  • Lunch under the pavilion
  • Awards and recognition

Sporting Clays Etiquette: The Complete Guide for First-Time Guests

By | Sporting Clays, Uncategorized

Everything Every Beginner Should Know Before Visiting a Sporting Clays Course

Walking onto a sporting clays course for the first time can feel exciting, and maybe even a little intimidating.

What should be brought? When should guests arrive? Is there a certain order everyone follows? What happens at each station? What if someone has never participated before?

The good news is this: everyone was new once.

At Etowah Valley Sporting Clays in Dawsonville, Georgia, first-time guests are welcomed every week. Families, corporate groups, couples, bird hunters preparing for the season, and people simply looking for a new outdoor hobby all have one thing in common—they started exactly where every beginner starts.

This guide covers the basic etiquette, expectations, and best practices that help everyone enjoy a safe, relaxed, and memorable day outdoors.

Why Sporting Clays Etiquette Matters

Sporting clays is built on respect.

Respect for fellow guests. Respect for the course. Respect for the equipment. Respect for safety.

Good etiquette helps everyone move smoothly through the courses while creating a welcoming environment for beginners and experienced participants alike.

The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is enjoying the experience together.

Before Arriving

A little preparation goes a long way. Dress for the Outdoors

Comfortable clothing works best. Recommended attire includes:

  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Comfortable pants or shorts
  • Moisture-wicking shirts
  • Hat or sunglasses
  • Sunscreen during warmer months

North Georgia weather can change throughout the day, so lightweight layers are always a good idea.

Arrive a Little Early

Arriving 15–20 minutes before heading onto the course allows time to:

  • Complete paperwork if needed
  • Visit the Pro Shop
  • Pick up rental equipment
  • Ask questions
  • Attend any group safety briefing

There’s no need to rush. The day is meant to be enjoyed.

Listen During the Safety Briefing

Whether visiting as a family, participating in a corporate outing, or attending a lesson, safety always comes first.

Every briefing is designed to help guests:

  • Understand the course
  • Learn proper etiquette
  • Feel comfortable
  • Know what to expect

Even experienced guests benefit from paying attention, since every facility has its own procedures.

Respect the Pace of Play

Everyone enjoys a smoother experience when groups keep a steady pace.

A few simple habits help:

✔ Be ready when it’s your turn.

✔ Allow the group ahead to finish before moving forward.

✔ Keep conversations between stations.

✔ Avoid unnecessary delays.

A relaxed pace is encouraged, but so is being mindful of others enjoying the course.

Keep the Course Beautiful

One of the things guests love most about EVSC is the beautiful North Georgia scenery.

Help preserve it by:

  • Disposing of spent shells in designated containers
  • Respecting landscaping
  • Staying on marked paths
  • Leaving stations cleaner than they were found

Small actions help keep the property enjoyable for everyone.

Encourage Others

One of the best parts about sporting clays is the community.

You’ll often hear: “Nice break.” “Great job.” “You’ve got this.”

Whether someone breaks their first clay or their fiftieth, encouragement goes a long way. Friendly competition is part of the fun. Supporting one another is what keeps people coming back.

Silence Phones When Possible

This might be one of the few places where unplugging actually feels refreshing.

Instead of scrolling… Take in the scenery. Enjoy the conversations. Focus on the moment.

Many guests leave saying this was one of the most relaxing parts of their week.

Ask Questions

No one expects beginners to know everything. Questions are always welcome.

Whether asking about:

  • Equipment
  • Chokes
  • The Green Course
  • Lessons
  • Rentals

The EVSC team is always happy to help. Learning is part of the experience.

Common First-Time Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

Relax. Sporting clays isn’t about speed.

Enjoy each station.

7 Common Hunting Mistakes Sporting Clays Can Help Fix Before the Season Starts

By | Clay Shooting, Clays and Feathers, Skeet Shooting

Male guest discarding shells after breaking clays on Etowah Valley Sporting Clays's Blue Course.Missed Again? It Might Not Be Your Shotgun.

Every hunter remembers the one that got away. The dove that darted across the field. The quail that flushed unexpectedly. The pheasant that seemed to disappear just as quickly as it appeared. Most hunters blame their equipment.

The truth? More often than not, it’s a habit, not the shotgun. The good news is that many of the most common hunting mistakes can be corrected before opening day through regular practice on a sporting clays course.

At Etowah Valley Sporting Clays in Dawsonville, Georgia, hunters from across North Georgia use our courses to sharpen their wingshooting skills before dove, quail, pheasant, and upland bird seasons begin. And once October arrives, many continue that experience with our popular Clays & Feathers program at the neighboring Etowah Valley Game Preserve, where sporting clays and upland bird hunting come together in one unforgettable outing.

Here are seven mistakes we see most often, and how sporting clays can help fix them. Read More

Couples Are Choosing Sporting Clays in North Georgia

By | Clay Shooting, Skeet Shooting, Sporting Clays

Sporting clay equipment lined up ready to go on Etowah Valley Sporting Clays Blue Course.Dinner Is Great… But You’ll Probably Remember This Date Even More.

How many times have you asked the same question? “What do you want to do tonight?”

One of you says dinner. The other suggests a movie. Maybe you’ve tried bowling, mini golf, or another night at your favorite restaurant. They’re all fun… But after a while, they start to feel the same.

More couples are looking for experiences instead of just another reservation. That’s one reason sporting clays has become one of North Georgia’s most unique and memorable date ideas.

At Etowah Valley Sporting Clays in Dawsonville, Georgia, couples are discovering that spending a few hours outdoors, laughing together, learning something new, and cheering each other on creates memories that last far longer than dessert.

Why Sporting Clays Makes a Great Date

The best dates aren’t always about where you go. They’re about how you feel while you’re there. Sporting clays naturally creates moments that bring people together.

You celebrate the great shots. Laugh at the misses. Encourage each other. Share a little friendly competition. And before you know it, you’ve spent a few hours talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company without once checking your phone.

It’s Perfect Even If You’ve Never Tried It Before

One of the biggest misconceptions is that sporting clays is only for experienced shooters. It isn’t.
In fact, many couples who visit EVSC are trying it for the very first time.

We’ll help you:

  • choose the right course
  • rent equipment if needed
  • answer your questions
  • help you feel comfortable

No experience? No problem.

Friendly Competition Is Surprisingly Romantic

There’s something about learning together that brings people closer. One minute you’re encouraging each other before the first station. The next you’re joking about who owes dinner after keeping score.

Sporting clays gives couples something many traditional dates don’t: A shared challenge. Whether you’re naturally competitive or just there for fun, you’ll leave with stories you’ll still be laughing about later.

Looking for the Perfect Double Date?

Sporting clays is even better with friends. Instead of sitting across a restaurant table, you’ll spend the afternoon:

✔ Riding between stations

✔ Cheering each other on

✔ Taking photos

✔ Celebrating great shots

✔ Enjoying the North Georgia scenery

Then finish the day with dinner in Dawsonville, Dahlonega, or around Lake Lanier. It’s the kind of double date people immediately want to plan again.

Sound familiar?

If you’ve ever walked away from opening day wishing you had practiced beforehand, you’re not alone. Every year, hunters across Georgia realize the same thing: bird hunting is one of the few sports where many people expect to perform well without practicing first.
