Located on the Green Course just past Trap, our covered 5-stand setup offers a different way to experience clay target sports in the North Georgia outdoors
What Is 5-Stand?
Think of 5-stand as a compact variation of sporting clays.
Instead of traveling from station to station across a full sporting clays course, participants rotate through five stands located next to one another. Different machines send clay targets from multiple locations, creating changing angles, directions, speeds, and presentations throughout the round.
Before each presentation, participants can see which target is coming next, but knowing where it’s coming from doesn’t necessarily make breaking it easy.
That’s part of the fun. The variety requires focus, timing, consistency, and the ability to adjust as the presentations change.
At EVSC, one round of 5-stand consists of 25 clay targets per person.
Why Try 5-Stand at EVSC?
A Lot of Variety in a Smaller Space
One of the biggest advantages of 5-stand is its compact layout.
You can experience several different target presentations without traveling across one of EVSC’s full sporting clays courses. That makes it an excellent option when you’re short on time, want to add something different to your visit, or simply enjoy the faster rhythm of a compact clay target setup.
Challenge Your Skills
Different presentations require different reactions. One target may feel comfortable. The next may make you rethink everything.
That variety makes 5-stand especially appealing to experienced sporting clays enthusiasts who want another way to work on target recognition, timing, focus, and consistency.
And because everything happens within the same general area, it’s easy to see how different participants approach the same targets.
A little friendly competition tends to follow.
Stay Closer to the Action
Not everyone wants to spend the day traveling between stations.
With five neighboring stands, the group stays together and close to the action. The compact setup makes it easy to watch each other, compare rounds, and enjoy the experience as a group.
And since EVSC’s 5-stand is located on a covered deck, you’ve got a little extra protection from the North Georgia sun while you’re there.
5-Stand vs. Sporting Clays: What’s the Difference?
If you’re deciding between EVSC’s 5-stand and one of our four sporting clays courses, the biggest difference is the format.
💥 Sporting clays takes you through a larger course with stations positioned throughout the property. EVSC offers 25-, 50-, and 100-target sporting clays options, with a full 100-target round covering 14 stations.
💥 5-stand keeps the action concentrated in one area. Five neighboring stands and multiple target presentations create variety without requiring you to travel a full course.
Neither experience is necessarily “better.” They’re simply different. And you don’t have to choose just one.
Add a round of 5-stand before or after sporting clays and make a full day of it.
Is 5-Stand Good for Beginners?
5-stand can be challenging because you’re encountering different target presentations in relatively quick succession.
If you’re completely new to clay target sports or don’t have prior shotgun experience, we recommend starting with professional instruction before jumping into a round.
EVSC offers private and group lessons by appointment with experienced instructors who can help newer participants learn shotgun safety, fit, fundamentals, target focus, and technique. EVSC specifically recommends instruction before independent course use for guests without shotgun experience.
Already comfortable with the fundamentals? Then 5-stand can give you a new challenge to work toward as your experience grows.
Great for Friends, Regulars & Group Outings
There’s something about putting five people close together with a scorecard that makes everyone suddenly a little more competitive.
5-stand can be a fun addition for:
- Friends looking for some friendly competition
- Experienced sporting clays participants
- Families with experienced participants
- Corporate and client outings
- Smaller groups with limited time
- Regular EVSC guests looking to change up their usual round
Planning a larger corporate outing, fundraiser, or private event? EVSC also offers group options and facility rentals, and you can request a customized group quote based on the experience you’re planning.
Make It Part of a Full Day at Etowah Valley
You don’t have to come to EVSC for only one discipline.
Start with a round of 5-stand. Head over to trap or skeet. Or take on one of EVSC’s Green, Blue, Red, or White sporting clays courses.
With multiple clay target experiences available at one Dawsonville location, you can build your day around your experience level, available time, and what sounds most fun to your group.
Need equipment? EVSC currently offers 12- and 20-gauge over/under and semi-automatic shotgun rentals, along with ammunition, eye and ear protection, and golf cart rentals for sporting clays.
Stop by the Lodge & Pro Shop before your round to check in, ask questions, and get what you need for the day.
Safety Comes First
No matter which EVSC experience you choose, safety comes first.
EVSC is a shotgun-only clay target facility. Eye and ear protection are required, and only approved target loads are permitted on the property. Current EVSC guidelines allow 7½, 8, or 9 shot sizes and prohibit larger hunting loads on the clay courses.
If you’re unsure about your ammunition, equipment, or experience level, ask before heading out. Our team would much rather answer the question first.
