What to Wear for Your First Clay Shooting Visit
Comfort and safety are key when dressing for your first visit. Here’s how to gear up for each season:
👟 Footwear (All Seasons)

Always wear closed-toe shoes, you’ll be walking on dirt, gravel, and uneven terrain.

Sneakers or lightweight hiking shoes work great.
☀️ What to Wear in Warmer Weather (Spring/Summer)
Women:

Breathable tops or athletic shirts

Longer shorts, lightweight joggers, or capris

Baseball cap or brimmed hat

Hair tied back for comfort and safety
Men:

Moisture-wicking shirt or polo

What to Bring with You
We’ve made it easy for first-timers. Still, there are a few extras you can bring to make your day more enjoyable:
✅ Cooler with water or sports drinks – Staying hydrated is important, especially on warm days. We also have a cooler with light refreshments such as ice-cold water bottles and soda can products.
🚫 No alcohol is permitted on the courses – We’re all about safety and fun, and we ask that guests celebrate off the courses.
🧴 Sunscreen + bug spray – You’ll be outdoors for 1–2 hours. We also have some bug spray and sunscreen at the lodge you’re more than welcome to use for free.
🧢 Hats + sunglasses – A must for sun protection and visibility. Eye and ear protection are also required. If you don’t have these, no worries! We have some available for purchase at our lodge.

Our Best Course for Beginners
Start on our Green Course, designed with first-timers in mind. It’s fun, scenic, and not too challenging. Once you gain confidence, feel free to try:

Blue Course: Balanced and great for casual, recreational groups

Red Course: A little more technical for those wanting a challenge

White Course: Professional-level with long-range targets

Safety First, Always
Check out our Rules and Safety page first, but here are a few key points:

Eye and ear protection is mandatory

Use only target loads (7.5, 8, or 9) – no game loads, rifles, or handguns

Our staff will help ensure proper firearm handling when asked

Always follow signage and stay within designated paths and stations

We also recommend customizing your event and welcome 3rd party vendors who can bring axe-throwing, archery, and private instruction to help make your event unforgettable.
First-Timer FAQ
- Do I need a license?
- Nope! You just need to sign a waiver when you arrive.
- Can I bring my own shotgun?
- Yes, as long as it meets our guidelines (minimum 21” barrel, no visible hammers).
- Are kids allowed?
- Yes, with adult supervision. We also offer youth team programs!
- How long does it take?
- About 1–1.5 hours depending on group size.
- Do I need to sign in?
- No need to check in, we just ask that you sign a waiver when you arrive at the lodge, and make sure you’ve got eye and ear protection (also available in our lodge if needed).
