As the new year begins, many families across North Georgia are looking for meaningful, screen-free activities that help young people grow in confidence, discipline, and teamwork. At Etowah Valley Sporting Clays in Dawsonville, GA, we are proud to continue that tradition with our Youth Clay Team Evaluations, open to boys and girls ages 11–18.
Evaluations will be held in January, with two available dates dependent upon the weather:
- January 17 at 2:00 PM
- January 24 at 2:00 PM
These evaluation days are designed to introduce interested youth and their families to our program, assess readiness, and answer questions about what participation looks like throughout the year.
If your child is brand new to clay target sports or already has experience, this is a welcoming opportunity to learn more about one of North Georgia’s most respected youth programs – and here’s why.

A Youth Program Built on Confidence, Responsibility, and Teamwork
The youth program at Etowah Valley Sporting Clays is about far more than performance on the course. Our goal is to help young people develop skills that carry into every area of life.
Participants learn:
- Focus and patience
- Responsibility and awareness
- Sportsmanship and respect for others
- Confidence through steady improvement
- Teamwork and encouragement
Parents often tell us they see growth not just in ability, but in maturity, communication, and self-belief.
Our program is structured, supervised, and designed with safety and development at the forefront.
Who Can Participate in the Youth Clay Team Evaluations?
The evaluations are open to:
- Boys and girls ages 11–18
- Beginners who are eager to learn
- Youth with previous experience who want to grow their skills
- Students interested in joining a team-oriented environment
- Families looking for a positive, outdoor activity in North Georgia
You do not need prior competition experience to attend an evaluation. What matters most is a willingness to learn, listen, and participate respectfully.
What Happens During a Youth Evaluation?
Evaluation days are designed to be informative, low-pressure, and encouraging.
During the evaluation, participants and parents can expect:
- An introduction to the Etowah Valley youth program
- A review of expectations and structure
- Basic skill observation appropriate to age and experience
- Emphasis on safety awareness and instruction
- Opportunities to ask questions and meet program leaders
This is not a tryout in the traditional sense. It is an opportunity for families to understand the program and for our staff to ensure a good fit for both the participant and the team environment.

A Screen-Free Opportunity That Builds Real-World Skills

Participants spend time outdoors, learning to focus, manage their emotions, and support one another. These skills translate into improved concentration at school, stronger communication, and a healthier relationship with competition and challenge.

- Better attention and listening skills

- A sense of belonging and purpose
- Healthy routines and structure
Commitment, Structure, and Support
The EVSC youth program places a strong emphasis on consistency, accountability, and encouragement. From the very beginning, participants are introduced to clear expectations that help create a positive and respectful environment for everyone involved.
Youth learn that preparation matters. Showing up on time, listening carefully, and taking responsibility for their actions are all part of the experience. These expectations are reinforced in a way that is supportive rather than overwhelming, helping participants understand the value of commitment without unnecessary pressure.
Teamwork is another foundational element of the program. Participants are encouraged to support one another, celebrate progress, and offer encouragement during challenges. Learning how to be a good teammate helps young people develop empathy, communication skills, and respect for others, qualities that are valuable in school, sports, and future careers.
The program also teaches youth how to handle both success and setbacks with maturity. Participants learn that progress is not always linear and that challenges are part of growth. By learning how to reflect, adjust, and move forward, they build resilience and confidence that serves them well in many areas of life.
Throughout the program, instructors and coaches play an active role in mentoring participants. They work closely with each youth to ensure instruction is age-appropriate, encouraging, and focused on long-term development. Guidance is tailored to individual skill levels, allowing each participant to grow without comparison or pressure.
Participants gain valuable lessons in:
- Preparing and practicing responsibly
- Supporting teammates and contributing positively to group dynamics
- Responding to both success and disappointment with confidence
- Representing themselves, their families, and their team with pride
This balance of structure and support is what makes the EVSC youth program stand out. Families appreciate knowing their children are learning in an environment that values growth, character, and encouragement just as much as skill development.
